I haven’t had one of these in a while, and I’m going to try a new format … instead of choosing one thing, I’ll quickly comment on a few. Let’s see what you think.
Alec Baldwin
Okay, so he was a jerk to his daughter. If there’s a pattern, maybe he’s a horrible father. But is it any of my business? Any of yours? Most parents have made major mistakes they regret. They just don’t have their issues continuously broadcast all over 24 hour cable news networks for a week. Yeah, he’s a celebrity, but should it rate that much coverage? Just more evidence of Springer news seen as worthy of our time.
’08 Campaign
Getting started early this time. Quick thoughts:
Democrats: Hillary, Obama, Edwards. As much as I disagree with him on some major issues, Obama is their strongest candidate. If you want Dems to lose, it’ll be Hillary. America is not ready for a female commander in chief. Sorry.
Republicans: Looking kinda weak, I must say. No one holds a candle to Rudy, though. I have my issues with him, but he’s the best overall candidate in this race. If he gets the nomination, he’ll be our next president.
“The War is Lost”
We haven’t lost one battle in Iraq. Not one. Our military is tired of continuous negativity on a campaign that 1) they are still engaged in and 2) have made incredible strides in.
Of course the Democrats want us to lose in Iraq. It’s political to support the war. They have fought against this war for two years, and it is working. If we win this war, Bush and Republicans get political credit, at least in their minds, and the Democrats become even more of a joke than they already are. Yes. A joke. Everytime there is a natural disaster anywhere in the world, I expect a leading Democrat to hold a press conference and blame it on Bush. It is that ridiculous. Even more amazing is how many people swallow that stuff and say, “mmnnn.”
The Democrats learned from Vietman, which they got us into, by the way. Constant tolls on the news are meant to break our spirit. You don’t think these ists cheer everytime we report on the s? I’m not saying don’t report the s, but that is always the focus. It is a headline everyday on Yahoo when I check my email. If you believe the mainstream media, we have never done anything good over there, ever. That is patently untrue and they know it. Now comes the latest step, telling our fighting men and women that they have already lost, making every seem that much more worthless to them and the country that should be supporting them fully.
Let me tell you, most of the military guys that I know do not believe the of any soldier in this campaign is worthless. Sad, tragic, yes, but not worthless.
We never lost a battle in Vietnam, either. Betcha didn’t know that.
I’m not against protest. I believe it is healthy to some degree. There have always been protests. In every American war since the Revolution. It seems unfair to only give the protest airtime.
Peace.
I’ll bite:
Baldwin – he’s put himself in the spotlight with political activism. If it was a politician going around screaming at his daughter that way, it would be appropriate. When an actor/actress gets heavily involved in politics, it’s appropriate there as well, I think. Was it over-covered? Yeah, probably. But isn’t everything these days?
2008 – I disagree, I think America could be ready for a female commander in chief. Just not Hillary. Or, more specifically, another Clinton. I think the Democrats believe that another Clinton is their ticket back to power. But polls are already showing that people just don’t want the Clintons back in the White House.
The War is Lost – in previous wars comments such as those made recently by the leadership in Congress would be considered treasonous, and there would minimally be a threat of charges of treason. Our commitment to freedom of speech apparently trumps that these days.
The thing that Democrats are completely clueless of is that after the next major terrorist attack, they are truly going to look like fools.
