Well, the Democrats are in control of the House and Senate.
On one level, the Republicans deserved to lose the majority because they badly mishandled aspects of their position. While I hope the GOP use this opportunity to attempt a closer fascimile of good government, the cynic in me doubts they will.
Anyone who really knows the heart of the Democratic Party shouldn’t be surprised at the recent developments. Many of the same senators and congressional leaders who voted to go to war with Iraq, then pushed for more troops, now seek to pull the funding that would enact that very strategy.
The most telling Democratic move is the plan to pass the highest increase in taxes in the history of this country.
While I’m not personally a huge Bush fan, at least he understands a very basic principle. Cutting taxes improves the economy, generates jobs and lowers unemployment. The sustained economic growth under the Bush tax cuts has been astounding.
Ironically enough, cutting taxes also increases how much the government takes in taxes. Since more people are making an income and more wealth is created, more money is actually taken in taxes. The government actually makes more when taxes are lower.
Democrats must be idiots, ignorant, or interested in causing economic misery. Possibly all three. It is also a historical truth that an economy slows down when taxes are raised. It perpetuates a cycle that destroys a nation. Raising taxes hurts the economy, which then requires higher taxes to fix the problems that have been created. The nation quickly becomes overtaxed and the resulting misery is ripe for the fruit of extremist leaders and chaos. Several empires and nations have been prime examples of this, most notably China.
Mark my words, if the Democrats push through this tax hike, the US will go into a major recession within 2 years or less. Unemployment will go up and even more US jobs will be shipped overseas.
And the Democrats will blame the rich and the Republicans for it all, not necessarily in that order.
Peace.
